Generally property damage and insurance claims are mainly related to high winds, freezing weather temperatures, heavy rain and storm damage blowing leaves and debris onto roofs and gardens creating blocked drains, gutters and downpipes. Often the outcome of blocked drains, gutters and down pipes is that it creates roof leaks causing untold damage. Water can easily find its way from a roof leak, through a missing slate, tile or a hole in the flat roof felt down into the loft, attic or roof space. Sometimes the first sign that there is a leak in the roof is staining or water marks on the ceiling or walls.

Storms, extreme weather and heavy rain can cause severe flooding throughout a home or business. When water floods through the ceilings and runs down the walls from the roof space to the ground floor, basement or cellar it can cause damage to wood flooring, kitchen units carpets, decorations, furniture and contents within the home and it is expensive to repair.

The problem when water saturates old lathe and plaster ceilings is they become unsafe and need to be removed. Artex ceilings or plaster board ceilings often can be dried without the need for removal. The drying process can be speeded up just by using dehumidifiers and drying equipment. Loft insulation within the attic can be dried, however it is usually more cost effective to replace with new.

Water damage repair and restoration involves many different techniques throughout the cleaning and drying process. For example, water can be extracted in several ways by using submersible pumps or a wet vacuum.
